Follow the actions of the US Army's First Infantry Division in World War II.
The characters are largely unidentifiable, the writing is so-so and the editing is terrible. But The Big Red One is a respected and generally well reviewed war film of the 1980's. Acclaimed for its realistic portrayal of battle, and a gutsy performance from Lee Marvin as the squad sergeant. Also of merit are at least a few pretty well groomed battle scenes; of special note is a scene where the squad is resting in a cave as a battle looms outside.
