A career thief get partnered up with an eager young burglar as he plans his "one last job".
Is it possible that no one in Hollywood is aware that there are about 600 movies that deal with the career thief who wants to go straight but is coerced into pulling "one last job"? Anyway...
Critics seemed to run all up and down the board on this one. With Brando, DeNiro and Norton on the screen you get the great performances you'd expect. The plot, while a bit simplistic, is bearable; but it's the ending that really falls flat. Not only is it predictable, but there's not even an interesting subplot to bring you back into the story. DeNiro's character is given ample screen time and decent writing to keep him interesting, but the ending gives you nothing more on him. The same could be said of Brando and Norton's characters.
I enjoyed the film and suspect you will also, but it isn't going to go down as one of the great crime dramas.
The DVD also goes recommend for it's extra features.
Directed by Frank Oz.
