Spider-Man
returns to battle Dr. Octopus, but Peter
Parker may be re-thinking what life path
is best for him.
All
the action and more of the heart than
the first film, Spider-Man 2 is a summer
blockbuster that has thrilled audiences
and critics. Exciting action sequences
make the most of the impressive special
effects and certainly will not disappoint
anyone looking for a thrill. But it is
the further developing relationships
that are at the heart of Spider-Man 2.
Peter and MJ search for a way to get
together despite Peter's concern for
her safety. This while his best friend,
Harry is becoming unglued over the death
of his father.
The
only item we get less of compared to
the first film is insight into the villain.
Alfred Molina is great as Dr. Otto Octavious,
but we are denied the inner thoughts
and development of this character that
we enjoyed previously with the Green
Goblin. But Goblin and his son are central
characters to the story of Spider-Man,
so this omission is understandable. And
it is the story that really kicks in
this time around. Directed Sam Raimi
and his fine cast should take a bow for
developing a great story and meshing
it with first-rate action.
