A poor young artist falls in love with a discontented socialite, who is on her way to America where she is to be married to an overbearing steel tycoon. But the ill-fated ship has her own plan for the guests, her crew and the two young lovers.

The most widely popular film of all time. It's not the absolute greatest film you'll ever see, but it is pretty close. The photography, effects, music and general storyline are excellent. There is also a good deal of symbolism at work. (We give big marks for effective symbolism here.) I know, you probably hate DiCaprio. But he really is well suited for the hero role here, as are Zane, Winslet and Bates well placed in their roles.

This is a wonderful movie that sometimes gets a bad rap for being too Hollywood. If that is the reason it falls a smidge below the masterpiece level, so be it.

Academy Award winner for Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Best Director (James Cameron), Best Film, Film Editing, Score, Song, and Sound.

Directed by James Cameron.
