This
Spielberg/Kubrick collaboration is centered
around an artificial boy and the experiment
to get him to love and be loved in a
future where 'Mechs' are, otherwise,
little more than toys.
Critics
were split on this one.
It's a rather interesting film but, and
this is a hard thing to put your finger
on, the whole thing is probably a little
too far out there for most. The idea
that there will someday be robots that
look and feel like humans is troublesome.
The feelings of loss and displacement
in the picture are real, but the character
is not; that is the essence of the film.
And it just might be the case, ironically
enough, that we care less about the Mech
boy in this movie because he is artificial.
If that's the case, then A.I. could be
the best picture of all time.
AI proves one more thing: Blade
Runner was
way, way ahead of it's time.
Directed
by Steven Spielberg.
