In 2054, Washington, DC is the country's model for a new Precrime Unit, a high-tech investigative body that arrests murderers before they slay their victims. Cruise plays the chief investigator who has been set up (and predetermined) to commit a murder of his own.
A lengthy sci-fi trip with more story than action, but satisfaction is to be found in both halves. Another Spielberg visual masterpiece that features a blue palette and definitive lines throughout. The composition of every frame has a motion to it that is truly captivating.
Action sequences range from a creative and jarring alley confrontation to the less than stellar highway walk scene. This scene looks pieced in; it doesn't add to the story and was surely put in with the thinking that audiences demand this sort of thing (especially from Spielberg).
Along with the visual splendor, another highlight is the script. Based another short story by Phillip K. Dick, it has the audience guessing who the real villain is and how he will be revealed.
Tom Cruise should be commended for taking on some really impressive roles in recent years and Samantha Morton does a nice job portraying a "precog".
Directed by Steven Spielberg.
