Movie Review
  Planet of the Apes (2001)
of 5

An astronaut crash lands on another planet where apes rule and humans are slaves. Not a remake. Not a sequel. But Tim Burton's take on the classic Planet of the Apes story.

A dark, eerie film like one may expect with Burton at the helm. The effects, makeup and acting are all very impressive. Tim Roth's character is truly menacing, and the ape-like movements and interactions that need to be emulated by the ape characters are done very well.

The shortcomings here lie within the story. There's no mystery, all the characters have their motivations laid out in the first 15 minutes of the film and these motivations do not change. There is a creative timeline edge to the film, however.

That having been said, this DVD is among the best. It's packed with cut scenes and documentaries that would make a grown man (or ape) weep.

Directed by Tim Burton.
