A science team is sent to the surface of Mars in 2057. Their mission is to find out why Earth's efforts to make the planet inhabitable have suddenly gone awry.
Nothing very special about this film. The script, performances and pay-off are all pretty average. Pleasing special effects, though. Another note about the effects: I don't know what the record for most "lens flare" effects used in a motion picture is, but Red Planet has got to be in the top five of all time.
Not a great film, but a pretty good sci-fi effort that is at least better than Mission to Mars.
Directed by Antony Hoffman.
