Captain Jean-Luc Picard confronts a younger clone of himself who is bent on destroying Earth but who needs Picard's blood to stave off a genetic flaw.
Yep, yet another rogue wandering the universe with a personal vendetta against a Starfleet Captain. As uninspiring as this concept has become, I wasn't entirely disappointed with the outcome. There's a good deal to like about this film. We love Picard no matter what he's doing. Patrick Stewart could be reading the phone book and he'd have my attention. Tom Hardy does a decent job with the role of the "Nemesis", and the battle scenes are rather robust.
The script, considering both dialogue and plot, isn't a failure but doesn't thrill the senses either. We never learn much about the mysterious race, the Remans and what we do learn and see isn't very interesting. There's nothing in the way of Star Trek nuggets in the script either little things that add to the lore of the series.
Nemesis is a sizable upgrade from the preceding Star Trek: Insurrection; but doesn't come close to orbiting among the best in the ten film series.
Directed by Stuart Baird.
